A 15-year-old girl presents with a lesion on her left cheek for three months. This started off as a small asymptomatic papule which gradually expanded over time into a raised plaque which has subsequently ulcerated. There are no other symptoms, and the ulceration is painless. Her medical history is unremarkable. She is not on any medications and has no allergies. Her family history is significant for discoid lupus erythematosus in her mother. She recently spent her summer vacation visiting her grandmother in a rural area of Peru.
